The Roles and Duties of the Best Man / Man of Honour

  • Runs errands during the engagement and on the wedding day as needed.
  • Pays for his own wedding attire, attends fittings.
  • May arrange a bachelor party and/or buck and doe, alone or together with the other Groomsmen.
  • Gives gift to the wedding couple.
  • Attends the wedding rehearsal to get familiarized with the wedding ceremony proceedings and seating arrangements.
  • Attends the wedding rehearsal dinner.
  • May help the Groom get ready for the wedding ceremony if needed.
  • Wear boutonniere on left side of lapel.
  • Drives the Groom to the wedding ceremony on time.
  • Makes sure the marriage licence is brought to place of wedding ceremony.
  • Keeps any needed payments for wedding day expenses and delivers them accordingly.
  • May hold the Bride's ring until the ring exchange at the wedding ceremony if needed.
  • Escort the Maid of Honour throughout the wedding ceremony and wedding day as needed. Dances with her at the wedding reception during the song for the wedding party.
  • Signs the marriage licence as a witness.
  • May need to drive Bride, Groom and Maid of Honour to the wedding reception.
  • Makes a toast to the Bride and Groom at the wedding reception.
  • May do other introductions at the wedding reception if needed.
  • Helps with transporting the wedding gifts from the wedding reception if needed.
  • Has pictures taken with the wedding party.
  • May be required to stand in the wedding receiving line.
  • Sits at head table at the wedding reception.
  • Assist wedding guests if needed.
  • Makes sure the Groom's going away clothes and bag for honeymoon are brought to place of the wedding reception.
  • Help with set-up and decorating if needed.
  • Help with clean up after the wedding reception if needed.
  • Helps Bride and Groom wherever needed before, during and after wedding day.
  • Have a great time.

The Roles and Duties of a Groomsman / Wedding Usher

  • Runs errands during the engagement and on the wedding day as needed.
  • Pays for his own wedding attire, attends all fittings.
  • May help with arrangements for bachelor party and/or buck and doe.
  • Maybe required to say a speech at the wedding reception.
  • Gives gift to the wedding couple.
  • Attends the wedding rehearsal to get familiarized with the wedding ceremony proceedings and seating arrangements.
  • Attends the wedding rehearsal dinner.
  • Arrive at the church at approximately one hour before the wedding ceremony.
  • May light candles before wedding ceremony.
  • Wear boutonniere on left side of lapel.
  • Escort wedding guests to their seats by offering women their right arm. Usually Groom's family and friends sit on the right and Bride's family and friends sit on the left. If one side is expecting more guests than the other, you may wish to balance the seating by seating some of the excess to the other side. First few pews are reserved for immediate family and maybe a few close friends. Groom's mother is second last to be seated and Bride's mother is last to be seated before the wedding ceremony begins.

  • Needs to be ready for wedding least 2 1/2 hours before wedding ceremony. If needed for pre-ceremony photos, go to Bride's location.
  • Stands with wedding party throughout wedding ceremony.
  • Walks down the aisle, usually before the Bride or before first Bride's Maid.
  • Holds ring pillow during wedding ceremony. May have actually wedding rings on pillow, sometimes people fake this and give officiant real rings in advance.
  • Escorts the Flower Girl during the wedding day as required.
  • Has pictures taken with wedding party.
  • May stand in the wedding receiving line with parents close by.
  • May sit at head table at the wedding reception.
  • May dance with Flower Girl during wedding party song at the wedding reception.
The Roles and Duties of the Maid of Honour or Matron of Honour
  • Pays for her own wedding attire, attends all fittings.
  • Helps with the wedding preparations as needed.
  • May go with the Bride to help her pick out her wedding gown and the Bridesmaids' attire if asked.
  • May host the bachelorette party and/or a bridal shower alone or with the other Bride's Maids. Helps with buck and doe if having one.
  • Attend all events for the Bride. At showers read cards and/or record gifts for Bride to make thank you cards.
  • Attend the wedding rehearsal to get familiarized with the wedding ceremony proceedings and seating arrangements.
  • Attend the wedding rehearsal dinner.
  • Gives a gift to the wedding couple.
  • Helps the Bride dress for the wedding ceremony if needed.
  • Is ready for photographer at least 2 hours before wedding ceremony. Helps Bride be ready on time.
  • Helps arrange the Bride’s veil and train before and after she walks down the aisle.
  • Carries a bouquet of flowers during wedding ceremony.
  • Holds the Bride's bouquet during the wedding ceremony.
  • May hold the Groom's ring until the ring exchange in the wedding ceremony if needed.

  • Is Escorted by the Best Man throughout the wedding ceremony and wedding day as needed. Dances with him at the wedding reception during the song for the wedding party.

  • Needs to be ready and with the Bride at least 2 1/2 hours before the wedding ceremony.
  • Has pictures taken with wedding party.
  • Carries a basket or small flower bouquet. May be required to drop petals in wedding ceremony aisle.
  • May stand in the wedding receiving line with parents close by.
  • May sit at head table at the wedding reception.
  • Stands with wedding party throughout wedding ceremony.
  • Walks down the aisle, usually before the Bride or before first Bride's Maid.
  • Is escorted by Ring Bearer during the wedding day as required.
  • May dance with Ring Bearer during the wedding party song at the wedding reception.

  • Meet with Groom's parents and your spouse to discuss the wedding budget and number of wedding guests invited. It's best if this is not your first meeting.
  • Provides couple with requested wedding guests list. Be sure to stay within the number of guests to ask. Help the Bride by giving full names, addresses and postal codes.
  • Helps with wedding plans and wedding budget as asked.
  • Attend all parties for the Bride.
  • Give special wedding gift to couple from you and your spouse.
  • May host a bridal shower for the Bride for the Bride's family.
  • Maybe required to stand in the wedding receiving line.
  • Help with wedding guests introductions throughout wedding day.
  • Buys dress for the wedding, and informs Groom's mother of the colour, and style of dress she is wearing to the wedding so they can wear complimenting dresses for the wedding. Attend all fittings.

  • Help the Bride and Groom whenever asked. Be open and flexible with suggestions.
  • Dances with your new son-in-law at the wedding reception.
  • Brings along the Anti-Panic Wedding 911 Bag. (Bag with incase of an emergency items in it.)
  • Help with set-up and decorating if needed.
  • Help with clean up after the wedding reception if needed.
  • Enjoy the day and its process.
  • Offer your love, support and blessing during and after the wedding.
  • Ensures that the Bride's gown is cleaned and preserved properly while she is on her honeymoon.
