How to Plan Outdoor Weddings
Outdoor
weddings can be very romantic and serene, but
extra planning must
go into planning outdoor weddings. There are
many aspects that can ruin your wedding or make
it uncomfortable for your wedding guests if the
proper precautions are not taken. Below find some of the main
issues to consider when planning an outside wedding.
Some things to keep in mind when planning
a wedding outdoors
Outdoor weddings work
well for smaller informal weddings.
Choose a place with nice landscaping,
gardens and good atmosphere right down to the level of traffic
noise.
If you are having over 75 guests you
may need mobile washroom stalls, well supplied and clean.
You will need lots of lighting if it will go on after sunset (candles,
fairy lights, lanterns, floodlights).
Consider inviting the neighbors so they
are part of the commotion and noise, not complaining about it.
Pest control (mosquitoes and flies).
Generator far enough away from guests
that they are not competing over the noise.
You will need a tent, floor, chairs,
tables, electricity for things like lighting, PA system and music,
alternative shelter in case of bad weather, and a big enough kitchen
to provide for guests.
Also consider the time and labour involved
with setup and clean up.
Keep food in a shaded area and on ice
if needed.
Will any guests need wheelchair accessibility?
Is there sufficient parking for guests
and delivery?
Pick the month with the best weather,
you may not be able to pick the weather on your day, but maybe
you can up the chances of a nice day.
If you have to change the location at
short notice because of the weather, it can cause a lot of confusion.
Make sure everyone is clear on backup location and everything
involved with change.
Tents
If you are planning an outdoor wedding
and you will be renting a tent, be aware that most municipal
offices require you to obtain a permit if the tent is over a
specific square footage. The municipal office's building department
of the city or town your wedding will be occurring
in will be able to tell you their requirements.
Some rented tents have ceilings in them
that hide unsightly poles some are also made with white wooden
poles that are more stylish to hold the tent up. Be sure to
ask about the tents appearance inside and out, not just the
size and costs.
There are some advantages of using a
tent for your weddingreception.
You can adjust the size of the tent required to the number of
wedding guests that RSVP you. You can also
use your favourite caterer instead of being required to use
the on location caterer of your place of wedding
reception. You can also save money when managing your own liquor
for your wedding. Keep in mind that you will
need to buy your liquor licence yourself. Also, some beautiful
historical places allow site weddings on their
grounds or in their gardens. Contact the administrative office
to find out if they can accommodate your wedding.
